Never Give Up:

It's hard to believe it's April 1st today!  This year is flying by so quickly.  I'm scrambling to meet goals and deadlines, continuing to move ahead with my writing goals, marching forward with the dream/goal of having my first book published in 2015 or early 2016.  I won't lie - it's not easy.  Like everyone else, my life is busy.  I often feel like a hamster on a wheel, continuously running in circles and wishing for more time.  Does anyone else ever feel this way?

It's a constant battle to maintain a regular, protected writing schedule, but I made a commitment in January to set weekly writing goals and a writing schedule and see them through. I'm happy to report that while it's a challenge, it is working.  I can't say every day is productive, but I can say I'm making the effort...putting the words on the page.  I hope the end results is a book I can be proud of and that readers will enjoy, but either way, I'll be able to say, "I never gave up."  And in the end, that's what's important - whether you're talking about writing a book, meeting other goals and commitments, or just traveling on down life's road.

I learned life lessons at the knee of my Southern Baptist mother where honesty and true grit & determination meant everything.  "I can't" was not allowed in our vocabulary.  Many years later, I can still hear my mother's voice saying, "Can't never could do anything...you'll never know if you don't try."  Well, Mom, I still don't know where my story will end but nowhere in it does it say, "I gave up."

Best of luck to all those participating in the A-Z Challenge!

Cross My Heart...xxx
Sandra

What lovely words of encouragement and motivation. I like your mom’s quote; it’s a good one. I’m glad to hear that you have a writing plan and are sticking with it. Best wishes with all your goals.

Don't you just love having a Southern mother! Mine always said "Get the best education to get the best choices." She wasn't wrong either. Way to stick to your goals, Sandra! Can't wait to be your BETA reader.

My Mom was one of my best friends...I lost her many years ago but her voice is always in my head, encouraging me, pushing me. Thanks for the best wishes & for stopping by!

Yes, I did, well, except when she was preaching to me about the errors of my ways & doling out punishment that "was for my own good!"...lol! Look up "Southern Baptist Mother" in the dictionary and I'm sure her name is listed there...I miss her every single day.

Loved your IWSG article today...it was a light bulb moment for me. I'm spending too much time going for the perfect date in the early part of my book/s, getting frustrated. I'm really going to keep that in mind going forward. Thanks for another great article! And I'm holding you to the BETA reading!

You know how they say "You can sleep when you're dead"? Just replace "sleep" with "give up".

Very inspiring Sandra: never give up. Because there is always editing and revising to pull it all together :)

I'm careful about the goals I set for myself, because once I set them I'm like a bulldog. I clamp it in my jaw and hang on until it's done (or dead :) )

Best of luck with your goal!

LOL...one of my favorite sayings! And so true.

You're right...and I have to continuously remind myself of that. Thanks, Dolorah!

I had to set some writing goals to get on track...but I think I've got it now! Hanging on until it's done is a good thing! Thanks Kai!

Just stopping by from IWSG in the future -- 2020 and in the midst of pandemic! But I did enjoy your stories of growing up stubborn with a Southern mother to encourage you.
