Hey Y'all!  I'm happy to say I'm on a much needed vacation this week so my October post is short and sweet!

IWSG Question of the Month:  How do major life events affect your writing? Has writing ever helped you through something?

Major life events affect everyone at one time or another.  Whether these events are joyful or sad, they can be all-encompassing leaving little time or energy for writing.  However, I consider my writing to be a safe harbor in the choppy seas of life . . . something that can be a constant during both calm and tumultuous times.  I often find it productive to ride the waves of emotion from extreme happiness or sadness by transferring them to the pages of my book.  Has writing every helped me through something?  Yes. There has been a time in my life when writing was a welcome distraction from a painful reality, and I can say that losing myself in the words of my own story (or reading someone else's) helped save my sanity.  As always, it's a matter of making the time.

Everyone's situation is unique and ever-changing.  How do major life events affect your writing?

I'll be back "full-time" in November!  Have a great month, everyone!

    1. We can't always control what happens to us, but I do feel we can take control of what we do with it - the way we respond. Hence, writing is a safe harbor for me. Thanks for stopping by, Ronel! I enjoyed your post this month also.

  2. Well said. I don't NEED writing like I need water, but it's up there in terms of what keeps me going, for sure. Happy IWSG day and happy vacation! http://www.raimeygallant.com

  3. That's a great way to look at it. I don't think many people see it as such a fluid process. ;)

    1. It's not always "easy", that's for sure! But I do think it can be and is what you make it. Have a great month, Crystal!

  5. A welcome distraction... that's a good way to put it. Sometimes, in the middle of the darkness, we need something to distract us from all that frightens us or makes us miserable.

    Have a great vacation!

    1. Writing and/or reading are welcome "distractions" in my life. Everyone needs a "constant", I think, and writing is a welcome one. Thanks for co-hosting this month, Tanya!
