New Beginnings:

February turned out to be a fabulous, beautiful, warmer than normal month in the south.  The weather has been unbelievably nice - mid-70's in February?  Thank you, Mother Nature!   Spring arrived a month or so early, although I'm sure we'll have more chilly weather. But for now, I'm enjoying yet another opportunity to witness the rebirth of the land as everything responds to the attention lavished upon it by sunshine and warm temperatures.  Flowers are blooming, grass is turning green again, trees are budding, and birds are nesting while sharing their sweet melodies with the world.

This morning, I spent a few minutes sitting on my deck sipping my coffee while enjoying the re-emergence of Spring, and my thoughts turned to new beginnings.  Mother Nature renews our land every year - a "do over" - a new beginning so to speak.  Why shouldn't I do the same?  My current w-i-p continues to elude me. . . in other words, I just can't seem to reel it in.  All my efforts to complete it have hit a roadblock of one sort or the other.  It's not "writer's block" - it's just not "working", not feeling "right", not clicking into place.  Why?  I'm really not sure, but I've decided it's time to set it aside for awhile and like Mother Nature embrace a new beginning.  Another story idea has been tickling my brain for awhile now, and I think it's time to give it a shot and see where it goes.  I'm not abandoning my w-i-p forever .. . just giving it a rest for now.  Maybe later, I'll find the inspiration I need to do it justice & give it a rebirth.  For now, I need to feel the joy of writing that starting a new project often brings.  I need a new beginning.

Has this ever happened to you?  Have you ever set aside a w-i-p and then successfully revived and completed it later?  I welcome any advice you can give as I'm feeling a little "guilty" with my characters screaming "abandonment" in my head.  It's frustrating, but I know that unless I can get around this "roadblock" I'm hitting, none of us are going anywhere.

My situation goes along with the March IWSG Day Question: Have you ever pulled out a really old story and reworked it? Did it work out?

I don't think I've ever "reworked" an old story although I have "reused" a couple.  I'm sure I tweaked a word here or there.  I'm hopeful I'll be able to revive the story I'm setting aside for now and make it work when the time is right.  Meantime, I'll enjoy a new beginning.

Excerpt

The hunter becomes the prey, a prisoner to his own desire . . .
It was early. Faint daylight crept in through cracks in the curtains, but the room was still quite dark.
Turow couldn’t move. Couldn’t manage more than a quiet moan. His body wouldn’t respond, his mind refusing to engage. A huge weight of sated bliss layered over him, making simple actions impossible. Every breath he took reminded him why.
The covers tossed over his naked body held her unique smell. His tongue still tasted her. But it was what he didn’t feel that finally goaded him into awareness.
Her heat didn’t rest beside him. In fact, the sheet was cold.
Empty.
He tried to sit up but something jerked him down. That something a metal bracelet about his wrist, shackling him to the bed frame. His hazy mind recoiled in surprise. How could she have gotten to the key where it lay a room away in the pocket of his coat?
Alert and now wary, Turow let his senses sharpen before opening his eyes to a sight that scarred him, heart and soul.
Sylvia stood on the other side of their shabby room, dressed in her castoff clothes, her lovely, kiss-bruised lips narrowed, her expression carefully masked. She met his gaze directly, hers betraying nothing.
Because they were not alone.
“The Terriot Princes . . . Holy Hotness. There is so much deliciousness between all them it’s hard not to drool!” – Sara Kate, Goodreads

Review:

Obsession: a persistent disturbing preoccupation with an idea or feeling

Colin Terriot is a man obsessed.  One of the nine remaining princes of the House of Terriots, he has moved to New Orleans as a negotiator for his King, his clan.  As such, he finds himself once again facing his biggest obsession - the lovely but deadly representative of the Guedry clan, Mia Guedry.  The images of her in his bed haunt him . . . but then, so do the images of her in his brother Rico's bed.  Colin knows the heartbreak of betrayal - by Mia as she plays brother against brother, by the mother & family that drove him out of his home as a young boy, by the King he would give his life for. He knows he can never have more than a romp in the hay with Mia, but that doesn't stop him from wanting to make her his own in a more permanent manner.  Will Colin's obsession be the death of him?

Revenge: to inflict harm or injury in return for a wrong

Mia Guedry is a woman looking for revenge.  She's on a mission to claim her rightful place at the head of the Guedry clan.  To do so, Mia has to prove herself tough enough, cold enough to commit the ultimate crime.  She needs information and is willing to do whatever it takes to get it - even sleeping with the enemy while playing brother against brother.  Mia can't afford to go all soft & gooey over the man who steals her breath - the prince she desires more than any other.  The Terriots killed her family. It's up to her to avenge them.  Will her betrayal cost Colin his life?

Prince Of Power is a powerful story of obsession, betrayal, and revenge.  Time is running out for Colin to uncover the traitor living within the House of Terriots.  Time is also running out for Mia to claim the Guedry throne.  All hell breaks loose in New Orleans as age old enemies clash.  Who will be left standing when the dust settles?  Will there ever be a time for Colin & Mia?

Intricately woven plot lines and complex characters carry Prince Of Power to a block buster revelation and ending.  Hearts are broken as betrayals and ulterior motives are disclosed. Fans will love the strong support cast featuring old favorites like Max and Silas from the By Moonlight series representing their clans.  Things are heating up in New Orleans in more ways than one as once again, the Terriot princes strut their stuff while loving, fighting, drinking, dancing, and stealing hearts.  Hold onto your heart (& panties, Ladies) . . . The Terriot princes are back!  Prince Of Power is another Page Burning Must Read!

My Rating:  5 Sexy, Obsessive 's . . . And that's the truth!
